Maintaining a Concrete Stained Floor

Concrete Stained Floors are a wonderful addition to any home decor. The maintenance for these floors is relatively simple in most areas of the country.

The first rule for maintenance of concrete stained floors is to make sure there is a walk-off mat or at least a mat to remove dirt and especially sand from the feet of all who enter your home or place or business. This is very important in the dry Southwest and also in Florida.

The reason for this is that sand especially will scratch the surface of the concrete stained floors and the sealer used to protect the color and finish of the floor. The best method (and least costly in terms of time and expense) of protecting the sealer used is to apply two to three coats of acrylic floor finish to the sealer after the sealer has been applied during installation.

Where this simple method of prevention has not been adhered to you may see a very visible wear pattern in the floor. This may include scratching of the surface to even complete removal of the color from the floor.

Acrylic floor finishes are notoriously durable and easy to maintain. We know that several manufacturers recommend a paste wax for application to stained floors. Our experience in this business over the last ten years has revealed that the majority of people we speak with don’t like the maintenance frequency or the results from the paste waxes.

Acrylic floor finishes are very easy to use; simply mop on with a rayon finishing mop or micro-fiber mop. The frequency of reapplication really depends on the environment; in a home maybe twice a year and for a restaurant we recommend once a quarter to our clients.

Whether you use a paste wax or the easier method of acrylic floor finishes the benefits of simple maintenance go a long way to providing you with a floor to die for and keeping it in sparkling condition for many many years to come.
